A look behind the scenes at STOFF2: zinc intermediate-step electrolyzer
The focus is on the zinc intermediate step electrolyzer (ZZE), which flexibly stores renewable energy and converts it into green hydrogen. Peak production from wind and solar parks is buffered by the ZZE: over a period of 4 to 6 hours, the electrolyzer absorbs electrical energy and stores it safely in the form of metallic zinc in each cell – similar to a battery. When needed, this energy is used over a period of 12 to 24 hours to continuously produce green hydrogen.
This highly innovative approach makes it possible to absorb peaks in production directly on site, efficiently relieve the power grid, and at the same time ensure continuous, predictable, and economical H₂ production.
On the tour, you will learn firsthand how this technology works, what advantages it offers for sustainable energy supply, and who the minds behind this innovation are.
